The Toyota Fortuner 2024 shares the same platform as the Toyota Hilux. It was first introduced in December 2004, alongside four engine options: two petrol options and two diesel options, paired either with a rear wheel drive or 4-wheel drive configuration. The first generation of Fortuner was also fitted with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4- and 5-speed automatic transmission.

The first facelift of this first-generation Toyota Fortuner came in 2008 with even more features, including projector headlamps, new rear lights, and Bluetooth connectivity. The second facelift came in 2011 and had a new fender, hood, grille, headlamps, tail lamps, bumper, and fog light housing.

The first generation of the Fortuner debuted in Pakistan in February 2013 and has been available with two trims ever since its launch: the Fortuner 2.7 VVT-i and the TRD Sportivo, powered by a 2.7-litre 2TR-FE engine.

The second-generation Toyota Fortuner, introduced in 2015, had a new 'keen look' design language, quite different from the Hilux. It featured ABS, EBD, dual airbags plus knee airbags, a follow-me-home light function, an all-around sensor, a glove box with a chiller function, and digital automatic climate control. In September 2016, another petrol variant of Fortuner was launched as another second-generation facelift. Then, toward the end of 2017, Toyota Indus came out with another variant for the Fortuner: Sigma 4, which contained the feature bank addition of a 2.8-liter diesel engine, richly featured compared to its analog in petrol, such as the addition of a power backdoor and rear disc brakes, among others. In January 2020, Toyota Indus also launched the base petrol variant, the G trim, for the Fortuner.

There are three variants of Fortuner available in Pakistan, which include Fortuner 2.8 Sigma 4, Fortuner 2.7 V, and Fortuner 2.7 G. It has kept on being the most popular SUV in Pakistan while managing to bring a mix of modern features with strong performance.

Toyota Fortuner 2024 Exterior

The all-new Toyota Fortuner 2nd Generation Facelift appears more aggressively designed, featuring an enormous, forceful pontoon-shaped bumper complemented by an enlarged front grille. In addition to this, the unique headlights are also paired with the sharply done-up LED daytime running lights. The turn signal/position lamp is separated from the headlamp and houses fog lamps along with it. It has color-coded, auto-folding, and electrically operated side mirrors fitted with side indicators. It also comes with a high-mount stop lamp at the rear as a purposeful spoiler. It uses LED-type rear lamps in Sigma 4 and 2.7 V variants while G trim has been given the standard rear lamps.

The wrapped interior of the Toyota Fortuner 2nd Generation Facelift is indulgent and more than comfortable.

The cabin of Fortuner Sigma 4 and Fortuner V is done up with a chamois and black combination, while the G trim comes with an all-black interior. Information about the vehicle will be displayed through the high-resolution 4.2-inch TFT display to the driver that includes a digital speed display, selected driving mode (ECO or sport), status of tailgate, wheel alignment indication, external temperature reading, and other trip-related details. 

The illuminated entry is a standard feature in all the trims of Fortuner. The leather-wrapped steering wheel has the feature of tilt and telescopic adjustment. The centre fascia houses an 8.95-inch capacitive display supporting ApplePlay and Android Auto. In its infotainment system, one will get access to Bluetooth, screen mirroring, voice recognition, USB, mic, and Wi-Fi. The car comes with quite a good audio experience, accompanied by 6 speakers. The inclusions of safety features are vehicle stability control with Hill-start to assist control and traction system control in the G trim, while in the Sigma 4 and V trims, it includes the addition of active traction control, downhill assist control, and a limited-slip differential system.

All trims come equipped with drive start control, tire-turning angle information, emergency brake signal, light reminder, shift-lock system, anti-theft system, and anti-lock braking system. It also has an engine oil leveling warning that only comes with the Sigma 4 trim. In addition, it is fitted with front dual airbags and knee airbags for the front passengers.

In Pakistan, Toyota Fortuner 2nd Generation Facelift comes in with two engine options: 2.7 Liter DOHC 16 Valve Chain Drive with Dual VVTi Engine Petrol, which is 2694cc. This all comes on a peak power of 122/5200 kW/rpm on a torque of 245/4000 Nm/rpm. Another one is a 2.8 Liter DOHC 16 Valve Engine Diesel with intercooler, 2755cc. This all comes on a peak power of 150/3000-3400 kW/rpm at a torque of 500/1600-2800 Nm/rpm.

Toyota Fortuner 2024 Mileage

The current-year Toyota Fortuner has some quite at-par mileage features.

Fuel tank capacity is 80 liters, which can accommodate a decent amount of fuel.

Mileage: It extracts around 9 kilometers per liter in city conditions. In highway conditions, it gives a bit better fuel efficiency of 11 km per liter. These mileage figures add to the efficiency and performance factors of the Toyota Fortuner, which become incomparable for those who want both power and fuel efficiency.

With appropriate ground clearance and a really good power-to-weight ratio, the Fortuner is much suited for off-road purposes. This vehicle never loses its grip due to its active traction control system and is capable of delivering torque to its wheels when required without hassles. However, the car compromises at times on its ride quality even with the off-road capabilities. The shocks are not very well absorbed and thus the ride experience is kinda poor. The worst thing about driving on potholes is that they give jerks right to the occupants sitting in the vehicle; therefore, this can become undesirable for one who wants a smoother journey.

Now, there is no direct rival of the vehicle in Pakistan as the price range for this particular SUV doesn't give any brand-new competitor. However, the Toyota Prado can be counted as a competitor but in used condition.
